Part Two – The Large Intestine Channel
In TCM, the Large Intestine is the yang partner to the Lung. While the Lung takes in what we need, the Large Intestine helps us release what we don’t—both physically and emotionally. Autumn’s energy is about clarity, completion, and letting go. The Large Intestine channel mirrors this theme perfectly—it governs elimination and discernment, helping us clear away waste and make room for new beginnings.
The Large Intestine channel begins on the radial side of the index finger. It runs along the outside (thumb side) of the hand and wrist. Travels up the outer edge of the forearm and upper arm to the shoulder. Crosses the shoulder blade area, then connects internally with the Lung organ. From there, it moves down through the diaphragm to connect with the Large Intestine organ. Another external branch travels up the neck, across the cheek, and ends beside the nostril where it connects with the Stomach channel.
🌾 When the Large Intestine is in Balance:
- Regular, easy bowel movements
- Clear skin and complexion
- Flexible thinking and emotional openness
-
Ability to move on from the past
❌ When the Large Intestine is Out of Balance:
- Constipation, diarrhea, or abdominal pain
- Skin eruptions or acne
- Stubbornness or difficulty letting go
-
Holding onto guilt or resentment
💡 Ways to Support the Large Intestine Channel:
- Eat fiber-rich, warm foods like cabbage, pumpkin, and sweet potato.
- Drink warm water throughout the day.
- Try twisting stretches or gentle yoga to support digestion.
- Declutter your home and schedule—outer order supports inner clarity.
✋ Key Acupuncture Points for the Large Intestine:
Try gentle pressure or massage on these points for 1–2 minutes each day:

🍁 Summary
The Large Intestine reminds us that true health comes from the ability to release—physically and emotionally. When we keep this channel clear, we experience clarity, lightness, and peace. This Autumn, align with nature’s rhythm: release the old, breathe in the new, and trust in the cycle of renewal. 🍂
